In response to the many requests received from the
facilities survey last fall, the facilities department
looked at how IIT’s main campus could improve the
current Blue Bag program. We are pleased to report that
we are introducing a recycling program that will reduce
approximately 12 tons of paper material a month. In
order to reach and exceed that initial goal we will need
your help. To assure a successful implementation we will
proceed in phases with the first phase to include
academic buildings along with the Campus Center and HUB.
All paper products need to be placed in the blue
recycling containers designated for paper, which will
then be deposited in separate receptacles away from the
general waste stream. Aluminum and plastic should be
placed in their own designated recycling containers.
There will be more information following and we thank
you for your efforts in achieving a sustainable
University.
Sincerely,
TERRY FRIGO

UPDATE (11/30/2007):_
We have now expanded the recycling program to include
the south campus rental properties including the IIT
Tower, 3410-3424 S State, Life Sciences Research and the
Engineering Research building. We plan on expanding to
housing by mid-January. Our recycling efforts have
resulted to an average of 16 tons per month. We are also
instituting a dedicated bottles and can recycling
program that will be using green bags as opposed to the
blue bags. Also, recycling information on computers/
electronics and light bulbs are available. Please view
the link below to find out more about our recycling
program, order recycling bins, view recycling reports by
month or to tell us what you think or give us your ideas
about improving our recycling program.
